Hello, Craig! I'm sorry to hear about all of the trouble! I'll try to touch on all of the main points you brought up. The pro case is rather large, but it's a great option for customers that like to keep everything organized. If you need a smaller case, we have that option! It is true that it's better to trim on clean/dry hair instead of wet hair. Wet hair becomes matted down against your skin, which makes so that the hair is not easily trimmed. Dry hair stands up and is easily caught by the blade. In order to stand the wet hair up, one would have to apply a lot of extra pressure and that results in cuts and nicks. Trimming wet hair is just a bad idea.
About the guards - they will not break your trimmer, and if one of the guards ever breaks, we have you covered under a two-year warranty. They're very easy to attach and they do click in place. Here's a video that shows the best way to go about it: https://vimeo.com/406986730
For the micro-adjust lock button - that button only needs to be pressed when you're bringing the micro-adjuster down from 1.0mm towards 1.9mm, it's a feature that helps prevent taking off more hair than intended. When moving the micro-adjuster up from 1.9mm to 1.0mm, it's not necessary to push the button at all, just slide the lever up.
